This year’s list recognizes employers’ commitment to connecting with veterans and offering an environment for success. Rankings were determined by company policies related to veterans, reservists, and their families, recruiting efforts, and the organization’s culture.
Excellence in Supporting Our Nation’s Veterans and Military Families
January 2015, on behalf of Walmart Stores, Inc., Gary Profit, Walmart Senior Director of Military Programs, accepted the Lincoln Award in the Corporate Citizen category, recognizing outstanding achievement and excellence in providing opportunities and support to our nation’s veterans and military families. The award was bestowed by the New York City-based Friars Club for entertainers when inaugurating its new award program named after President Abraham Lincoln, who had issued a call for the care of our nation's veterans and their families in the last months of the Civil War.
Diversity Journal 2015
According to the Diversity Journal, "Not only does Walmart deserve recognition in 2015 for more than doubling its original [Veteran's Welcome Home Commitment] hiring goal, but for its work in supporting veteran entrepreneurs... This year, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. was among the 14 founding organizations that helped launch the Coalition for Veteran Owned Business."
Inspirational Change Maker
In 2015, Walmart Senior Director of Military Programs, Gary Profit, U.S. Army (Retired) was singled out for his efforts by the National Retail Federation (NRF) at their inaugural Foundation Gala event - a night dedicated to celebrating the imagination, inspiration and innovation at work in the retail industry today. Gary was recognized under the “Giver” category and described as an “inspirational change-maker and big-hearted optimist who makes retail shine as a force for good, bringing opportunities to his company, community and more”.
